The paper 4 in the I.G.C.S.E. exam asks you to write an essay on to a depth study that in this case is U.S.A. this essay had to be based in the following question:
How important were republican reactions to the wall street crash as causes of Roosevelt´s success in the presidential elections of 1932?
In the year 1932, there were new presidential elections in U.S.A., Roosevelt won them. Republicans reaction to the wall street crash take a big role in U.S.A. people opinion. There are two points of view, if the republicans helped or not the new president to win the elections.
On the one hand, the republicans were the head of the U.S.A. because they won the presidential and their new president was Hoover, he paid the price for being unable to solve the problems of the depression. Hoover was regarded as a "do nothing president" because the people of the U.S.A. say " In Hoover we trusted and now we are busted" this mean that the U.S.A. people trusted in Hoover but he wasn´t a good president so these bring major problems in the depression. In the year 1930 and 1931 he tried to restart the economy by tax cuts, also he set up the reconstruction finance company, this helped the banks by not going to bankrupt and also he wanted to help U.S.A. industries by establishing tarffs however, this bring a worse depressions.
On the other hand, people in the U.S.A. said thatthey need a salvation, this mean that they wanted a new president who can solve all the problems that the "do nothing president" did, so the idea was to elect a new president with a different point of view of the depression and this president was Roosevelt the democrat candidate. The plans of Roosevelt for his presidencial were four and each of them were important for the U.S.A. to get out of the depression, they were, getting americans back to work, protecting their savings and property, providing relief for the sick, old and unemployed and getting american industry and agriculture back to their feet.
As a conclusion, we can say that Roosevelt victory can be seen that the two points of view, gives him the victory beacuse of the incapacity of Hoover and the capacity of Roosevelt to take control of the U.S.A. government.
Herbert Clark Hoover
Franklin Delano Roosevelt
